late 1800’s-1900’s. Rhinos in South Africa were hunted in games and for horns till less than 50 survived.
1952- antipoaching laws and the population grew to 350 rhinos.
1961- rhinos are moved to protected land and population continues to grow.
1990- estimates made by experts indicate that there are 90% less rhinos now than in historic times.
1970-1992- rampant poaching leaves only 2,300 black rhinos in the wild.
2001- Andalas is born at Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens. A Sumitran Rhino,
first ever born in captivity.
Only 300 Sumatran Rhinos were left at this time.
2007- Population growth is great for most Rhinos, but the Javan Rhino population
continues to suffer as it was never bread in captivity.
Tuesday the 12th April 2011. Australia’s first ever white rhino to be born in captivity at Australian Zoo. Australia is now part of the conservation of the White Rhino.

On the 6th of April, 2011, a female swan who was nesting her egg was brutaly stoned to death by 4 teenage boys while 2 teenage girls supposedly watched. The 4 boys have now been caught and everyone is anticipating the judges ruling. I’m hoping 100 hours of community service, (the boys are only 14.) Black swans are a native species to Australia and all Australians are absolutely appalled.

Thought of today: How can Australians expect kids to respect animals when Australia is one of the only 1st world country without tough animal abuse prevention.
